Empowering Communities Transforming Lives

We're already making a huge difference in the lives of communities in Wales.

Our Mission

Experts in Placemaking

We exist to make the lives of communities better. Working in four key areas, we help community members create opportunities to make impactful and sustainable changes to their lives and environment. Community-led through and through, we are committed to working with local people to create long-lasting transformation, allowing people to take control of their own community destiny to develop inspiring places to be.

What is Placemaking?

Placemaking is a collaborative approach to designing and managing public spaces that prioritises the needs and desires of the community. It transforms ordinary areas into vibrant places that foster social interaction, well-being, and a sense of belonging.

We are unique in being the only charity working directly with other placemakers in developing lived environments collaboratively with the community. By identifying shortfalls in community places, we respond by creating opportunities for community members to take ownership of their areas, driving change and uplifting community confidence.

Placemaking for us is a continual thing. By supporting us, you help people have meaningful impact on where they live.

How We Work

We believe that communities have it within themselves to bring about meaningful change. This means that we don't believe in telling people what their problems are, or forcing solutions onto them that they may not want.

We instead take an embedded solutions approach. We run community hubs in areas that need social support, employing local people to act as interfaces between us and the community. Our staff then will run community forums to give local people a voice in what is done for them. We prioritise projects that are made with the help of the community, and which fall into our four key areas of engagement.

Alongside our community-led projects, we run a regular set of basic programmes that are available at our community hubs throughout the week. These tackle one of our four key engagement areas. By having a physical presence that is open to all, we can engage better with local people where they live, so that we are always guided by the issues and solutions that will have the largest impact on their lives. This means that every hub is different, just as every community is different.

Thanks to our distributed community hubs, we can connect like-minded people across the country. By working collectively, we are able to move towards common goals, combine resources, and share knowledge. Community power comes through co-operation, and we are explicit in our commitment to empowering communities to collectively organise for their own improvement.
